WoW: To PuG or not to PuG?

Needless to say, there are two ways to raid around World of Warcraft (WoW). One is to stay with your guild all the time and the other one is to join pick-up groups or PuG. These two styles, or school of raids if you will, both have pros and cons. Blizzard‘s Nethaera advised that it would be good to do both:

It’s good to run with the same people consistently in that it allows you all to get to know what to expect from each other and it can make things easier. Raids tend to need much more coordination than pugs can normally pull off so there’s a plus on the side of knowing those you group with

However, some will argue that “pugging” can sometimes be more fun because it gives you the sensation of uncertainty which makes MMO video games all the more exciting. Nethaera added that by joining PuGs, players may acquire some new tricks that they haven’t considered before not to mention the fresh perspective provided by new found pugmates.

Likewise, in case you don’t learn something new, it’s still good to meet up with players you don’t know and try to teach them a thing or two. After all, WoW has already evolved from a simple MMO game to a vibrant community of players.

In the end, everything boils down to style preference. Pugging will entail leaving a player’s comfort zone. But why stick to guildmates you don’t get well along with, right? Keep in mind that we are playing to have fun and therefore our experience shouldn’t be limited.
