WoW: What counts as “Tier 5 and beyond”?

World of Warcraft rogue wearing Tier 5 Deathmantle - Image 1Kaloth over at the World of Warcraft Forums is a bit confused. The gist of his opening post was what counts as Tier 5 equipment. Even Blizzard poster Drysc was misled by the question and answered exactly what Tier 5 sets are:

Tier sets are specific sets of armor, some which include multiple variations. What a set is basically broken down to is the item’s interaction with each other in the form of “set bonuses”. The set bonuses only become available, or “turn on”, when you have a certain number of that set. While other items may carry the same look as a set, and are sort of intended to fit into it to some degree to create a cohesive look, they aren’t considered “tier items”.

As it turns out, what Kaloth was asking was what “Tier 5 and beyond” means in the Public Test Realm patch notes. We’re sure some players are also curious about that clause in the patchnotes: All epic items of Tier 5 and beyond quality have been upgraded to reflect their intended power.

So far, Drysc hasn’t replied to *that* question as of yet but we’ll keep you posted. Stay tuned.
