Xbox 360’s Viva Pinata to challenge Pokemon?

Viva Pinata is rumored to be Microsoft’s counter to the highly successful Pokemon. I don’t know about that (maybe we should ask Dora? Oh wait she’s exploring), but to give them the benefit of the doubt, we tried to listen to what the developers has to say.

To be honest, this game could actually have a future, especially if you take in to consideration who the developing studio is. Rare, creator of Perfect Dark Zero and Kameo, has taken up the challenge (challenge is an understatement) of making a game that could rival the famous (or infamous) Pokemon.

Lead Designer Gregg Mayles talks about the game’s concept describing it as “an environment that players could customize to attract animals, and allow the player to trade those animals with other people”. Supporting his statements was Executive Producer Jim Veevaert; according to him the game is all about “the opportunity to create the world youÂ’ve always wanted to have” adding that “itÂ’s about creativity, customisation, freedom of expression and personalising the world around you to attract the pinata’s into your garden”.

They also talked about the creatures having a mind of their own; they may be ordered around at times, but they occasionally do what they want, when they want it. They also shared the evolution features, training concepts, candy currency, breeding, pinatas? customization, and the Xbox Live feature that will basically allow other gamers to interact, race, trade, compete, compare their pinata’s with other “haciendero’s”.

From what I see, Viva Pinata is set to be another game masked to appear like a different title compared to Pokemon. Aside from the design, almost all concepts are taken/based from the game they aspire to rival. Xbox must take to heart the lesson about “fighting fire with fire”. Besides, Pinata’s are meant to be smashed; whether Xbox 360’s Viva Pinata will be a smash hit or a smash flop remains to be seen.
