Xbox.com and Xbox Live downtime

xblMajor bummer news you guys, Xbox Live and Xbox.com will be down (offline, unavailable, whatever the heck you wanna call it) starting midnight Pacific Time on Tuesday October 17 for up to 24 hours. Microsoft says that this is for their scheduled service maintenance and to bring us more cool stuff (that they won’t tell us about) when they go back online on October 18th.

The company’s PR also says that this is NOT the Fall Dashboard update, this is just your plain old unilateral maintenance.

Knowing that some of you guys might still be in denial of this fact, and just simply.won’t.believe. that XBL will be down, and you decide you wanna see it for yourself, here’s what you’ll get: error messages for the first hour or two that Xbox.com and XBL are down. When you go to Xbox.com, a Server Not Available message will appear, and if you try connecting to Xbox Live, you’ll get the “can’t connect” message.

As we said, this is because of their scheduled maintenance so no, there’s nothing wrong with your account, nor your browser or computer, or ISP. After a few hours, that’s when you’ll see the “We’re down for maintenance” message. Well, that’s that. Microsoft promises that they will make it up to us when they go back online, so we can only guess what those new “cool stuff” would be. We will inform you as soon as we find out.
