Microsoft, not the the type to be shy about its achievements, proudly announced that the attach rate for their Xbox Live amongst Xbox 360 users is now at a full 60% thanks to Xbox Live Marketplace and Arcade.
Xbox Live has hosted over two billion hours of gaming and over 500 million games of Halo 2 and according to the company it is on-track to hitting its goal of six million Xbox Live accounts in 2007. The Marketplace, used by 75% of all connected users, has handled over 30 million downloads, a big jump over the past two months. The increase is attrbuted to its new features such as download queue or in the background. The Arcade which serves 65% of connected users boasts of over five million downloaded games.
MS isn’t about to stop there. The company said Xbox Live will evolve into the Live Anywhere initiative – a convergence point for Xbox 360 and Vista PC gamers. The process will involve a common interface for both platforms and will bring Xbox Live standards (community, skill matching, anti-cheating and unified billing systems) into the online PC gaming sphere.
Halo 2 for Windows Vista and the cross-platform shooter Shadowrun, due in early 2007, will be the first titles for the Live Anywhere service. Only a limited Xbox Live features will be available during the merging test period.
