Zork fans, take heed: AdventureCon is announced!

Most of us, having been born after these titles’ heyday may not be familiar with the original versions of them, but are you an adventure game fan? If you are, then this event is good news for you: AdventureCon, the first convention for adventure game fans, will be held later this year.

AdventureCon will happen August 28 to 29 this year, at the Mirage Hotel and Casino on the Las Vegas strip. For two days, adventure game fans who will visit this convention will enjoy exhibits, adventure game workshops, the Zork room and panel discussions. Guest speakers, mostly adventure game publishers, will also be there to talk about their latest adventure games.

AdventureCon basically started out as a celebration of the 30th birthday of Zork. But the creators saw that it might be a good way of gathering adventure fans to support adventure games. Some of the big names to attend this event will be: Scott Adams of Adventure International, Al Lowe of Sierra On-Line, and Jane Jensen, author and creator of the Gabriel Knight computer game series.

And for your information, Zork, written in 1977, was one of the first interactive fictional computer games, where a player plays as an adventurer finding treasures in hidden caves on an underground labyrinth.
