First forays into BlackSite: Area 51

Back in November, Midway Games finally came out and quenched all rumors surrounding the supposed sequel to their popular FPS title Area 51, by confirming that there is indeed a sequel. Then, just within the second week of 2007, this was then reaffirmed when the same announcement was sent out to EGM.

Well, if anyone is still doubting all this, then here’s the proof that you need: a set of new screenshots, and the first official trailer for BlackSite: Area 51. A follow-up to the original shoot-em-up which first appeared on the PS2, the Xbox1 and the PC, BlackSite: Area 51 will now be gracing the PS3, the Xbox 360 and, of course, the good ol’ PC.

While there are still not too many details about the storyline, the folks at IGN did mention that the game description reads:

The player’s modern-day emotions and fears are driven into a world charged with grave responsibility affecting lives hanging in the balance and eventually finding himself torn between his professional orders and his own ethical standards. In the end, only the actions of the player and his squad can shape the outcome of BlackSite: Area 51 during this potentially pivotal moment in history.

Hmm… so it involves managing a Special Forces squad whose stamina, aim, and skills depend on how well you dispatch your men. Check. ATVs, HMMWVs, civilian cars, and helicopter raids would be just a few of the ways that you can get around. Check. Destructible environments which you could either use for cover, or as means to corner, outflank and outmaneuver your target. Check. Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Capture-the-Flag, and Siege modes of online multiplayer play. Definitely, CHECK.

Now, the only thing left to figure out would be if the story involves saving a wide-eyed little girl who goes by the name of Dakota Fanning…

Screenshots follow right after the Jump!
