Rumor: Resident Evil 5 set in Haiti?

Resident Evil 5 is set in Haiti? - Image 1

Apparently, Capcom‘s Resident Evil 5 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 is not taking place in South Africa, as many of us assumed based on the trailers (and the following controversy). This bit of information was picked up by an industry insider (via Kotaku), who further noted where the game was really taking place: Haiti. What makes this bit of speculation all the more interesting is that Haiti, in case you don’t recall, is also home to the religion of Voodoo.

Cue in the popular thoughts of witch doctors, voodoo dolls, and zombies, and you’ll know why we raised this point. Just to clarify, we do point out that zombies appear to be more of a part of rural Haitian culture – and Umbrella Corporation’s T-Virus – rather than the religion itself. We can’t clarify just how accurate this info is at the moment, however, so we advise readers to take this rumor with a pinch of salt. We’ll get back to you if we can confirm this bit of RE5 speculation.
