Senator’s staff asks Wal-Mart for PS3

taken from http://www.ontheissues.org/Four_Trials.jpgFormer North Carolina Senator John Edwards is in a bit of hot water these days, and all over a PlayStation 3. A politician critical of Wal-Mart‘s labor practices, he had to acknowledge on Thursday that one of his staff asked Wal-Mart for help in getting one of Sony‘s consoles for Edwards’ family.

Strange, isn’t it?

Word had spread from Edwards’ wife to a staff member that their kids were hoping to get a PS3 of their own. The staff member mentioned it to a volunteer, and that led to the fiasco Edwards is currently facing. The unnamed volunteer tried to get in contact with the retail giant’s Raleigh branch, asking for a PS3 on behalf of Edwards and his family.

After confirming that the volunteer was a member of Edwards’ staff, Wal-Mart came out with a statement on the matter. Part of the statement reads, “While the rest of America’s working families are waiting patiently in line, Sen. Edwards wants to cut to the front.”

While the volunteer himself hasn’t made a statement, Edwards has acknowledged the volunteer’s actions, saying that the volunteer feels terrible about the whole thing. “He made a mistake and he knows he should not have used my name”, Edwards said. In the meantime, Edwards’ group is retaliating with their own counterstatement, citing Wal-Mart’s recent statement as an attempt to lead people away from the issue of the company’s unfair labor practices.

Yet another weird bit of news to add to the weirdness that is Sony’s console launch. On the other hand, it’s not as bad as muggings, shootings, theft, and mob infestation, and at least it’s one politician who likes games.
