Wasabi: New D2E drives hacked, Wii and GC backups now running

Wii - Image 1New Wii drives, designated ‘D2E’, have apparently been sighted in the wild. What does this mean for people using modded versions of the Nintendo Wii console, specifically those who are using the Wasabi modchip? Not a thing, says the Wasabi team. More in the full article.

Wasabi modchip - Image 1Nintendo has apparently rolled out new drives for their Wii console in what appears to be an effort to further curb the spread of piracy on the Wii. So far, it seems like the modchip community is still one step ahead, though.

The team behind the Wasabi modchip has recently announced that the new drive has already been hacked. They have also confirmed that Wasabi users can run Wii and GameCube backups on consoles that have the D2E drives.

The Wasabi team also revealed that according to the dates found in the D2E firmware, the new drives are not a reaction to Wasabi’s 9-wire patching method for D2C. Keep checking back here for more updates.
