Woman buys Xbox 360 from Wal-Mart, gets dirty socks

Not again...And once again, Wal-Mart is under fire for selling a supposedly-new item to a customer, only to have the buyer discover otherwise. Previously, they’ve sold a “brand-new” Microsoft Zune which was apparently already filled with pornography before it reached the owner, and now they’ve sold an Xbox 360 for US$ 460… except that the box was filled with dirty socks and old magazines instead of the console.

According to the buyer, Marissa Gonzales of Post, Texas, she got the Xbox 360 box from Wal-Mart’s layaway department. The console was supposed to have been a Christmas present for her children, but sadly, that plan didn’t go too well.

She said that she’d already contacted Wal-Mart management numerous times, but that she was just being turned over from one person to another without any results. She spoke with one Wal-Mart employee who informed her that “Wal-Mart fired several employees before Christmas for stealing from the layaway department”. When she inquired if this could have been the case with her purchase, she notes that “They acted like that didn’t happen.”

Meanwhile, Texas police are now investigating the matter, and Wal-Mart has issued the following statement about the matter:

We take our customers’ concerns quite seriously. We are currently conducting an investigation into this situation as well as cooperating fully with the local authorities on their investigation. We wouldn’t want to say anything that might hinder their investigation, so at this time we are referring all inquiries to them.

There have been no word as to whether Gonzales’ money will be returned to her.
