15 publishers to sign-up for PEGI Online system in Europe - Image 1With the popularity of video games going steady through the years, the outcry of concerned gaming industry denizens in Europe for a more stringent game “filter” for questionable game content has been answered by the launch of the PEGI Online gaming security system of guidelines.

Tailored from the original Pan European Game Information (PEGI) age-rating system enforced since 2003, the PEGI Online system is deemed as a more effective method of online protection made to protect young European gamers from game content for the inappropriately aged. The system was also created as an aid for parents in deciding which games would be better for their children.

The system achieves all this by unifying publisher’s assessment of game releases with up-close surveillance of independent bodies while adhering to the strictest of European standards.

To aid in this noble cause, fifteen major video game publishers and developers have already signed up to offer their help for PEGI Online, namely Eidos Interactive Limited, Electronic Arts, Macintosh Corporation, Nintendo Europe, Sony, Ubisoft, and Vivendi Games Europe to name a few.

“The enactment of PEGI Online is tremendously positive for kids”, said ISFE Chairman Jens Uwe Intat. According to him, children are given more avenues to learn and be more creative through PEGI Online, while equipping parents with the means to aid their young ones navigate the wide world of online gaming  with care.
