24% increase in software sales, Wii to outsell PS3, predicts Pachter

Michael Pachter - Image 1Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst Michael Pachter has let loose a couple of predictions pre-empting the monthly NPD Group report. Most notably, the predictions of a 24% increase of software sales this April and the Wii significantly outselling the PS3 by a huge margin are something to watch out for.

It’s not all just blind supposition, if that’s what you’re wondering. Based on PS3 and Wii sell-through figures in a four-week period that ended this May 5, Pachter also shot off the forecast of the Nintendo DS getting a massive boost of hardware unit sales from Pokemon Diamond and Pokemon Pearl.

He also cited recent sequels (God of War II, Ghost Recon Advance Warfighter 2, Guitar Hero II) as key players in the April increase – as well as major movie tie-ins like “Spiderman 3” and “Harry Potter” keeping the PS2 alive for the months to come.

As for the rest of the predicted hardware unit sales figures (Pachter’s, of course), here they are in full:

  • Wii 300,000
  • PS3 100,000
  • Xbox 360 175,000
  • PS2 250,000
  • PSP 200,000
  • DS 450,000
  • GBA 100,000

Well? What do you think? The numbers are certainly quite generous, but only time can really tell if they ring true or not. Keep it locked here for any and all developments, and maybe even share your own predictions in the comments.
