Ad agency Leo Burnett says goodbye to Nintendo

Leo Burnett says goodbye to Nintendo - Image 1Nintendo relied heavily on advertising agency Leo Burnett during the fierce marketing campaign for the Wii before the console was launched. Seeing the huge success and popularity Wii is enjoying now, it is fair to say that the ad company did an excellent job.

Quite curiously though, Leo Burnett announced recently that it is already cutting its ties with Nintendo. No specific details were given why the partnership was terminated but “well-placed insiders” are saying that this is due to the increased interference from Nintendo’s main headquarters in Japan.

Nintendo Marketing director for UK Dawn Paine, on the other hand, mentioned that they part ways because of a “change in business requirements.” Publication Marketing Magazine claimed that all of Leo Burnett’s documentary-style ads for Wii were re-done and re-shot to look more like advertisements.

Leo Burnett is one of the most extensive marketing communications networks globally today. Just so you know, it currently handles eight out of the top 10 consumer brands around the world. Its partnership with Nintendo lasted for a good seven years.
