conanThe guys over at the Age of Conan website got busy laying down this week’s gameplay preview: crafting. No, it’s not the sissy kind of crafting you’re thinking of. Here in this game, crafting is vital as it aids the people of Hyboria in succeeding in their battles and surviving harsh conditions. As this is a battle game, it’s obvious that they need weapons. Lots of it. Hence, crafters are highly important.

The Crafter prestige class makes essential items and equipment that their armies need. From siege engines to weapons, the Crafter supplies all these to their friends and customers to help them get through all those dangers awaiting them at every turn. So, the point is you don’t wanna mess with a crafter, cause if you push their buttons the wrong way, they just might turn their backs on you and leave you empty-handed, which is practically the same as leaving you for dead.

Of course, to ensure quality weaponry and tools, there will be five different schools of crafting that will cater to different specializations. There’s the Weaponsmithing school, which as the name gives away, specializes in  making various forms of weaponry for arming those he plans to support in battle. The Armorsmithing school is similar to the weaponsmith, but focuses on crafting various pieces of protective gear in addition to ways to enhance equipments. The Gemcutting school hones and crafts gems to decorate and enhance the equipment. These guys are pretty much in charge of that X-factor in the design of the armors. In such a gloomy environment where everyone’s trying to kill each other off, a little jazz sure won’t hurt, right?

The Alchemist is trained in various pharmaceutical and metallurgical arts. The Architect, obviously, is in charge of constructing and designing the more impressive buildings and siege engines used to wage war in the Border Kingdoms and beyond. Apart from this, they facilitate designs to protect their allies’ assets or destroy his enemy’s.

Essential also will be the creation of items that matter. The focus was in creating not just a whole bunch of weaponry, but a whole lot of useful weaponry. The game also promises that you will encounter the toughest and most dangerous of dungeons, which might also yield components that will allow you to harvest exceptionally precious craft items.
