The American Council on Exercise has released their findings on the effectiveness of the so-called fitness game, and what they found is that, “The Wii Fit is a very, very mild workout.”

The American Council on Exercise has released their findings on the effectiveness of the so-called fitness game, and what they found is that, “The Wii Fit is a very, very mild workout.”

There have been many doubts as to the exercise value of Wii Fit and other fitness games for a long time, but to say very, very mild makes it sound like the equivalent of the effort you make looking for the remote around the couch. The study found that Free Run and Island Run are the most effective, averaging 165 calories burned with every 30-minute session – though that’s not quite the workout that Nintendo promised.

“I guess anything is better than nothing, but we were a little bit underwhelmed with the exercise intensity of some of the exercises,” says Dr. John Porcari. “The Wii Fit is a very, very mild workout.”
