Blazing Angels: Secret Missions. Not so secret anymore.

Way to go, Ubi. Keeping the box art a SECRET, too. - Image 1Ubisoft decided to take the wraps off of Blazing Angels: Secret Missions via PR. Now we have a semblance of plot, a hint of multiplayer, and a vague suggestion of the kinds of planes you’ll take to the air in as you re-re-re-re-re-re-re-fight World War II. Here’s a clue as to the aircraft: if you’ve played Secret Weapons Over Normandy, then it’s possible that you’ll be flying the same planes in Secret Missions.

“Players will have access to some of the most advanced and unusual aircraft and weapons of WWII, as well as access to a huge assortment of weapons, including high-velocity cannons and early guided missiles.” Yep, feels like the Secret Weapons Over Normandy arsenal. Intelligence analysis with prior experience. The bane of all security officials everywhere.

The plot of Secret Missions has you, blue-eyed Allied hotshot, undertaking missions all over the world to stop the Third Reich from building the “ultimate weapon” (which seems to be a Third Reich penchant, come to think of it). Multiplayer mode introduces a couple of new wrinkles, one of which Piloting Papa might like. There’s the Capture the Flag mode – familiar enough – and the all-new Epic Battle mode featuring two teams of fighters in “large-scale battles” with conquerable bases and objectives on the opposing side to destroy. They never did say how large the scale was, but it better be darn big or Papa gonna turn the plane around.

Still scheduled for a Spring 2007 ETA. And no, that’s not the packshot for the game. But we needed something stamped SECRET.
