Blitz Games not quite impressed by Unreal engine

BlitzEpic GamesUnreal Engine is probably one of the most used game engine nowadays. ‘Twas first introduced back in 1998 for the FPS title Unreal and since then, it has been utilized successfully in a wide array of genres including third-person stealth titles and MMOs. However, Blitz Games CEO Andrew Oliver, has an advice for everyone else saying otherwise.

“The Unreal engine and toolset is very good and is becoming the obvious choice for many developers, but it’s certainly not the only choice,” says Oliver. He further declares that these developers are making a very big mistake. When the price of any middleware software goes up a year later, the executive explains, developers won’t be able to do a sequel because they can’t afford it. “I saw this happening as EA were buying RenderWare,” he remarks.

Finally, Oliver declares that Unreal Engine makes impressive demos and nothing more. And when ask to compare their software to that of Epic’s, the CEO replied: “Our middleware does that, we just haven’t got the flashy art demo because we’re busy making games. They’re not.”
