Bree: At the Crossroads of Lord of the Rings Online

Bree at Night

Because it’s situated at an important crossroads – the Great East Road and the North Road – the town of Bree, featured in the Lord of the Rings Online‘s “Exploring Middle-Earth” feature, has always been a veritable melting pot of Middle-Earth races. That should be apparent to players who wander about town.

Walk through upper-class residences in the center of town or the shanties of the slums down south. Shop in the marketplace in the east and the blacksmiths towards the west. Run into Dwarven merchants, old-town farmers, the odd hobbit or two, and the woodcutters who brave the forests outside of town.

And of course, stop by the Prancing Pony. That is, if you don’t have a strange ring about your neck and black-clad riders on your heels. These lands have grown more ominous lately with the coming darkness. Oh yeah, the feature also features a public service announcement: As the shadow of evil creeps across the lands and the corruptible spirits of Men weaken, many of Bree’s citizens, who were once open and friendly to travelers, may now have been lured into service by agents of darkness. Do be careful when talking to strangers!
