Buy Crackdown, get into Halo 3 beta?

Cracking down on... buildings? The folks on the Cheap Ass Gamer forums are abuzz with word of another way to get into Bungie‘s Halo 3 beta. Basically, all you have to do is wait for February to come along and buy a copy of Crackdown.

Sounds simple, but not really. Apparently, an ad in GamePro mentions this rather appealing marketing ploy, and it’s a limited-time offer. You also have to purchase a specially marked box (Crackdown is NOT cereal, FYI) to get the chance, so hunting down one of these boxes may be tougher than expected.

Right now, we’re putting this in the rumor bin as there’s no picture to be found of the ad in question. If you’ve got proof that confirms this, let us know.

One thing though: RealTime WorldsCrackdown is shaping up to be a pretty interesting game, if only because the guy who made it created the GTA series. Why didn’t they use that to market the game, we wonder?
