If you played Ghost Squad on the arcades (or just generally like arcade shooters and light guns), this is definitely a treat for you. SEGA has just released buckets of information about the video game’s outing to the Wii.

Ghost Squad is currently under development by SEGA’s AM2 arcade division. The Nintendo Wii version is set to bring the arcade shooter experience straight to our homes with the use of the Wiimote. The Nintendo console version is also reported to sport a number of Wii-specific features and gameplay modes. Controls on the Wiimote would be used for a number of different things – aiming and firing, defusing bombs, and rescuing hostages. Other features include:

  • Multiplayer mode of up to four players
  • Arcade mode
  • Three mission areas with a number of levels (with alternate routes)
  • 25 weapons (unlockable and varied: machine guns, submachine guns, pistols, sniper rifles, shotguns, and crossbows)

Scott A. Steinberg, SEGA of America, Inc.’s VP of marketing had this to say:

Ghost Squad brings the classic light gun blaster experience that SEGA made popular in the arcades to the Wii. With a more robust multiplayer experience than even the arcade version and numerous unlockable items and stages adding replay value, Ghost Squad will be the ultimate shooter experience for the Nintendo Wii console.

What will players be up against? Malicious terrorist groups with plans of world domination. Hardly original but we’re sure the enjoyment comes in disposing of the threat. The U.N. created the Ghost Squad (Global Humanitarian-Operation and Special Tactics Squad) to eradicate the terrorist infestation. Anyway, Ghost Squad for the Nintendo Wii will get deployed to the stores on the holidays of this year. Check out the screenshots for a sneak peek.
