The online games industry in North America and Europe has recently been enjoying a boom, as more and more people are discovering the joy of MMORPGS. However, it’s not just them who have been relishing this trend, as it looks like things are also looking up for their Chinese counterparts.

As recently announced by China‘s General Administration of Press and Publications (GAPP) digital publication vice director, Kou Xiaowei, the Chinese MMORPG industry is expecting a growth of 74% yearly. This figure can be attributed to the fact that in 2006 alone, revenues went up by 73.5%, which pretty much equates to US$ 839 million. The best part is that 65% of that amount was generated by games which were developed and published locally. After all, China serves as home to at least 90 online game development companies.

So with new MMO titles being constantly developed, and with the likes of WoW: TBC having just been released to keep players’ interests fresh, will China’s MMO sector continue to soar this 2007?

Well, China thinks it will.
