Coded Arms Contagion Direct from GC 2006
The best compliment to a sequel is that it was better than the first. Coded Arms Contagion may have survived the sophomore curse but it still has a long way to go before it it supersedes the original.
Juan Castro from IGN UK reports that fans of the first game will not have any trouble adjusting to the sequel. Because essentially you’re still a lone security agent who needs to stop cyber-terrorists from gaining access to classified military information. You still maneuver through virtual rooms and corridors shooting at everything in site. However, this time the environments are much more refined and detailed. The corridors offer more space for you to roam around and you’re not even confined inside anymore, you can also wander outside and see nature. No kidding.
Depending on your preference, this could either be good or bad news – levels aren’t generated randomly anymore. It now follows the standard levels on first-person shooters where each level is comprised of static sections connected by hallways and doors. We can probably expect level designers to crank it up a notch when it comes to design.
In the demo, you’ll only encounter a few enemies like soldiers and overgrown insects, however the developers gave their word that there will be a lot of upcoming enemies for you to lay to waste with your high-powered weapons in the future. There’d better be. Because so much for the eight player functionality plus last man standing and deathmatch modes if there are only two enemy varieties.
The game is expected to have about six missions, each with various subsections. Unfortunately, the demo at the Games Convention is far from being complete and only showcased a few stages for players to try the basics – shotgun, pistol, assault rifle and rocket launcher – all of which you can upgrade through the new monetary system.
