Codemasters Vice President shares excitement over Archlord

David SolariDavid Solari, Vice President of Codemasters, gave away some enticing information about his company’s latest MMORPG venture, Archlord. According to him, the most defining feature of the game is that a player can actually become the Archlord, with it comes a repertoire of special abilities and powers that will make you, well, everybody’s lord. Banking on gamers’ innate desire to “lord” over others (owning someone is actually satisfying, imagine owning everyone), the game aims to set a conflict-oriented environment filled with gamers vying to become the top-dog.

Mr. Solari, however, said that Archlord is not your typical slash-kill-own game, adding that “itÂ’s not that one guy kicks everybodyÂ’s ass, it is much more about guilds behind the person. ThereÂ’s no way one person could become the Archlord with no one watching his back, so itÂ’s really a team effort and guild mastery that matters”.  This could also be one way of learning how to be loyal, or the opposite of it.

ArchlordHe also shared more news behind the game’s virtual realm, Chantra. According to him, the online world will have three races – Humans, Orcs and Elves. A gamer will be able to form guilds with any race (so Lord of The Rings: The Fellowship of the Ringish). “There’s no total hatred or animosity between the races or factions. They live in the world together and can join together as needed” he added.

Other spills made by him were the London Symphony Orchestra being the gameÂ’s source of music; a formal beta test that is actually in the works; a tentative release date by late summer or early fall; and the best of them all, theyÂ’re actually considering the possibility of the game being free (or perhaps thatÂ’s his way of making a joke?).
