Component/Composite cable comparison: what are you missing?

Component Cables vs AV Cables

The world is currently under a shortage of component cables. For all we know, some dude is hoarding thousands of those eye-candy inducers in a warehouse somewhere downtown. Regardless of what your theory is on why there’s a shortage, you still can’t deny that there is. For those who still doesn’t have one at this point, you might be settled down with your composite AV cables. At least for now. But then, you can’t help but think: What am I missing, exactly?

We can go on and on giving you the differences between the component cable and the AVs, but what some of you would want might be visuals. Above and below, we’ve posted screenshots from hey_suburbia taken from his Samsung 42″ LCD TV. He was able to compare the output of both cables, and pit them side by side – component on the left, composite on the right (save for the first image below – which shows the composite output on the left, component on the right).

One of the most notable differences is that the the component cables’ output sharpens the edges of the objects and defines them better. Of course, you can’t simply see the diff by just looking at the thumbs. Click to enlarge!
