Crysis Nano Suit: nano stands for flexibility

You've got to strut like you mean it, free your mind. It's not enough just to dream it, come on, come on! - Image 1 (No, Chris, you dolt, “nano” means small, micro, mini…) Okay, that’s not the point, editor. By introducing that powered special forces suit that’s bound to make the Ghost team flood its Cross-Coms with drool, Crytek‘s introducing some interesting tactical flexibility to the FPS gameplay of Crysis, says Crytek’s Cevat Yerli to IGN.

The Nano Suit (pictured left, with warning label) your character wears has four special functions, as though the video of its operation did not make that any clearer. Speed, Strength, Armor, and Cloak. Each ability drains the Suit’s energy reserve, which will recharge when you’re not using any of said special functions.

The basics of any good shooter, first-person or third-person, is “shoot-and-scoot” – ask the Gears of War people, for example (Alternatively, some griefers prefer “camp and be an alpha-hotel,” and if you ask us what A-H means, the autobleeper will activate). Being able to run as fast as a speeding bullet, become more powerful than a locomotive, deflect more damage than you receive, or sneak into the ladies’ room, changes that basic premise, however, says Cevat.

The goal really is to ensure that all of the suit’s functionality is equally useful. Obviously in a heavy fight you might want to dial up the armor but you could perhaps use strength instead and pickup a large fuel drum and throw it into the enemy. Other options could include cloaking and using enhanced speed to quickly flank around and taking out the enemy from behind… We have seen some pretty wacky things and approaches that really show that there is never really ONE way to win.

All the abilities will be available in multiplayer, says Cevat. Now that’s really going to mess up some basic FPS premises. You thought you saw bunny-hopping in Counter-Strike? Having the strength to leap bungalows in a single bound should redefine the term “death from above”.
