David Jaffe: Video games are not just kids’ toys, that’s utter BS

Not just kids’ toys

Not too many people are fans of the ratings board in Australia. And for good reason. They’ve been known to censor games, which would have otherwise been fine for other territories as a Mature game, or even refuse to rate them, which is essentially commensurate to imposing a ban on the game in the country. One such not-fan is God of War creator David Jaffe.

At the Game Connect Asia Pacific Conference in Melbourne, Jaffe was qouoted as describing the rating methods of the land down under as “utter BS.” Said Jaffe, “There’s a government board and if they say it’s too offensive, in that case there’s no fight to fight — it is what it is. There’s not much you can do if you’re making games aimed at a mature audience. We never like to cut it but what are you going do? You’re dealing with governments.”

He continued on, “There’s absolutely an inconsistency in the consciousness about video games. The reality is people still see a lot of these things as kids’ toys. It’s utter BS.”

God of War III is poised for a March 2010 in Australia and has yet to be given a classification by the ratings board.
