David Jaffe video: on swearing, Miyamoto, and his comments

David Jaffe - let's all be friends - Image 1A news article recently came up in which God of War developer David Jaffe seemed to make fun of Miyamoto by saying “I’ve been trying to figure out why the f_ing go-karts shoot banana peels.” Some readers were upset by this, so David Jaffe made a response video. OK. Basic info first, reactions later. A news article recently came up in which God of War developer David Jaffe seemed to make fun of Miyamoto by saying “I’ve been trying to figure out why the f_ing go-karts shoot banana peels.”

Some people were affected by his statement. So Jaffe explains in a recent video diary. Here’s a rundown of that video:

  1. No, he doesn’t think he is a better developer than Miyamoto.
  2. He expresses nothing but respect for Miyamoto.
  3. He says that he swears a lot because that’s the environment he’s been brought up in.
  4. He doesn’t intend anything by his swearing (they’re just words) and he acknowledges it’s a fault but it’s not enough to get worked up about. He throws in a lot of swear words to make his point, but it’s swearing with a point (does that make sense?).
  5. He holds up his Wiimote and Xbox 360 controller. Get the point?
  6. He expects everybody to be just friends, and maybe that’s naive, but that’s that.
  7. He’s not angry about this. But he was busy and may seem worked up because he’s busy, so he needed to “vent,” but the smile on his face and his tone of voice shows that he’s not angry.

To all you little kids out there, stay away from this one if you’re not supposed to be watching videos with swearing, OK?

In recent news, David Jaffe announced that a Twisted Metal blog is now online.
