Dyack explains why Baldur was the choice in Too Human

Too Human - Image 1In an IGN post, Too Human chief Dennis Dyack wrote a piece on why his creative team chose to star Baldur in the anticipated action game rather than more popular Norse gods such as Thor, Odin, and Loki. Dyack simply answers that his team loves treading the path less taken.

Dyack tells of one poster in the blogs who referred to Baldur as the “pussy” of the gods. If you’re lost on why the reader made that comment, we’ll fill you in.

As best as our mythology memory serves us, Baldur the Beautiful is the male Norse god who possesses extraordinary aesthetics which is beyond that of any god, man, or beast. As the myth goes, Baldur was so beloved by everyone that all things in Asgard and earth made a vow never to harm him. All except the mistletoe which was too young to make such a rouse. This made Baldur invulnerable to all weapons and the gods created a game in which Baldur was made to stand still while being attacked.

Of course he was never harmed. Even the weapons made a vow not to harm him. This really ticked Loki off and he found the mistletoe, crafted it into a weapon, gave it to an unwitting blind god and had him throw it at Baldur. Whack! The pussy of the gods fell dead. Score another one for the god of mischief.

Dyack says that the choice for Baldur follows the pattern they started with Legacy of Kain for the original PlayStation. The Silicon Knights team wanted someone who would keep the fans intrigued and involved, making the choice for Baldur an illogically sensible one.

“Imagine now that you play a character that is destined to die before his time. Think you can guess how it all turns out? If you can, then I guess you fully understand why we really chose Baldur. Chances are you will be guessing again,” says the Silicon Knights boss.
