Yes, folks, the game was in development all this time, Ninty was just quiet on it. So what’s it like? Imagine Guitar Hero III or Rock Band, only with 60 instruments. The catch? You mean it was in development all this time? Yes folks, despite updates on the game were few and far between, Nintendo has revealed over at the E3 conference that Wii Music is actually slated to be released in time for the holidays.

Nintendo also revealed new details on Wii Music, with Shigeru Miyamoto himself demonstrating some of the instruments you’ll be able to play in the game. In the game, you’ll be able to play over 60 instruments.

Don’t think you’ll be getting any Rock Band or Guitar Hero -type peripherals though (that would be hell on the packaging and shipping). Instead, you’ll be playing all these instruments with the Wiimote, and the Nunchuk. You can also make use of the Wii Balance Board as an improvised drum pedal.

According to the press release, you won’t be the one playing in time with the music. The music will be the one playing in time with you. You can improvise all you want in the game game, you can’t mess up:

Play faster. Play slower. Skip a beat, or throw in 10 more. No matter what you do, Wii Music automatically transforms your improv stylings into great music. There are no mistakes—just playing for the pure joy of playing.

You’ll also able to use the Wiimote as a baton and think of yourself as the next Leopold by commanding your own orchestra. You’ll be able to record all of your band sessions and play them again for your own satisfaction, as well as share them with friends. Here are some screenshots of the game for you:
