Electronic Arts announces SKATE soundtrack
Microtransaction advocate Electronic Arts recently announced the line up of (count ’em) 45 songs selected especially made for their skateboarding title announced last year, SKATE (for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3). Featuring artists such as David Bowie, Nirvana, N.W.A. and The Ramones, EA also brought forth some skate music authenticity with master mixes from DJ XXXChange and Tommy Guerrero, a boarder legend.
Steve Schnur, EA’s exec for worldwide music and marketing, stated that the soundtrack was a true reflection of real-life skateboard culture. Historically, skateboarders skated to their own rhythmic mixes, and EA wanted SKATE‘s soundtrack created just the same way.
“In that spirit, we talked to hardcore skaters around the country to help pick many of the songs for SKATE. Real recognizes real, and this soundtrack is a straight-up tribute to a culture like no other,” said Schnur. Relying more on the authentic feel of skateboarding than of visual presentation, SKATE will take players through the fictional boarder’s paradise of San Vanelona, with the ability to capture their own style on video.
