AnandTech recently got some hands-on time with a playable tech demo, and apparently it looks pretty damn good. You can see for yourself in this short (we’re talking 15 seconds short) video clip. There are also a couple of screenshots further down.

Porting a powerhouse engine to a platform like the iPhone has imposed some restrictions on it, though. It uses OpenGL ES 2.0, so it only works for the iPhone 3GS and third-gen iPod Touch.

Don’t expect Epic to jump into the iPhone market anytime soon, too. This is apparently just one of their many projects and right now they don’t have any plans to make games for the Apple handheld. The engine, on the other hand, will reportedly be made available to licensees at some point in the near future.
