EQ’s Chris Worley predicts gray will be the shade of MMO

the new face of MMO 5 years from nowEverQuest‘s beta is well on its 13th beta, and what better timing could there be for its new producer to speak up and have a little chat with us? Chris Worley reveals his thoughts on EQ, the future of MMO, and why he’s dubbed as ‘Mr. Sunshine’.

While MMOs sure are the rave today, Worley is confident that five years from now, the genre will be branching out to a much wider market. True, that there’s a huge number of MMO players today, it still is relatively small compared to the more general market. Five years from now, it’s gonna be shaded with more of a gray than just strictly black and white.

“In the past if someone said MMO you knew what they were talking about. Now with more casual online games entering the market and the console titles pushing into the online space it will be interesting to see what happens to the definition of MMO.”

As for his favorite event in EQ, it would have to be the part where players fall into the depths of Blackburrow through the fake tree. Then, there’s the theoretical question on what he plans to do with the game given unlimited time, budget and staffing. He says that he most probably prioritize creating a team that would basically address the open issues, such as the one with the Live game.

Oh, and he is ‘Mr. Sunshine’ because he “tends to be very optimistic, the glass is always half full!”

What a jolly fellow.
