FF XI problems when running on Vista

Problems? - Image 1Spencer Yip of Silicon era reports that the final release candidate of Windows Vista (RC2) is having difficulties loading Sony‘s PlayOnline viewer. He claims that the install menu doesn’t work and even if PlayOnline is on your system, the application fails to launch.

He adds that since PlayOnline is the gateway for Final Fantasy XI and Front Mission Online, gamers that migrate to Vista will not be able to play either game, or any PlayOnline dependent game, until a patch is made.

This isn’t entirely new, we’ve reported on this before.

Yip’s article, however, matters because a workaround is to be found in one of the comments in his post.  A commenter, who goes by the name Mike, claims that it does work – you just need to know how to properly install it.

Mike says that he had to “explore” the DVD that he purchased and install each setup manually because, as mentioned, the installation menus doesn’t automatically launch.

Once he was done with each setup, Mike claims that all he had to do was set up POL.exe to run as Admin and run it as it’s on XP SP2.

A link to a how-to can be had via our read link below. So feel free to use it if you’ve got Vista, you’re willing to do things manually, and you’re too impatient to wait for a patch for PlayOnline.
