Final Fantasy XIV producer says it will be completely different from FFXI
Final Fantasy XIV (PS3, PC) got a lot of cheers when it was announced at the tail end of Sony‘s E3 2009 presentation, but reactions were generally mixed when gamers spotted “Online” part in the title. Some have thought that it’s essentially a better-looking Final Fantasy XI, only this time for the PS3 instead of the Xbox 360. Final Fantasy XIV producer Hiromichi Tanaka says that isn’t the case at all.

Some have thought that it’s essentially a better-looking Final Fantasy XI, only this time for the PS3 instead of the Xbox 360. Final Fantasy XIV producer Hiromichi Tanaka says that isn’t the case at all.
“Characters in the trailer looked very similar to the ones in Final Fantasy XI. That’s pretty much the only thing that’s going to be similar,” Tanaka told G4TV. “The gameplay and the story are going to be completely different.”
The game is still quite a ways off, but there’s apparently going to be a beta period. We’ll know exactly how different the two games are then.
