First concrete details for Oblivion’s Shivering Isles expansion

Yeah, really.

Remember that rumored Oblivion expansion we posted about in December? As it turns out, it’s real, and the first concrete details about it have finally emerged.

According to CVG, the latest edition of PC Zone magazine says that the expansion, called Shivering Isles, will offer more than 30 hours of new adventuring, new quests, monsters, expanded freeform gameplay (examples of this are quest lines that branch more than before), and a new land “that you can watch change according to your vital life-or-death decisions.”

The story behind Shivering Isles apparently starts when an ominous-looking gate appears in Nibben Bay. The portal leads to a torn realm – the Shivering Isles – ruled by Sheogorath, the god of madness and dementia. Players will reportedly meet the god and be forced to “plow through his trials,” but there are also some hints that players may ultimately end up usurping Sheogorath.

The Shivering Isles expansion for Bethesda‘s The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion has been given a tentative release date of Q2 2007. If you’re looking for some screenshots, check out the latest edition of PC Zone (#177) which hits stores today.
