First Generation High Definition Disc Player Won’t Copy Data

Expecting to copy that 50GB movie to your hard drive (for God knows what)? Too bad, PC World is reporting that first generation high definition optical drives will not allow users to copy the data, nor stream the discÂ’s data to other sources or media. This is thanks to the implementation of the AACS interim standard (interim meaning it canÂ’t manage copying).

So, consumers may want to wait on those next gen high definition optical disc players until they have all the functions they are used to (if the price didnÂ’t deter them already). IÂ’m not exactly sure what the benefit of having a drive that canÂ’t copy is, or how companies plan to market these drives, but weÂ’ll keep you updated.
