Futronic no longer distributing Wiis in South Africa

South Africa - Image 1Just a short update for the Wii fans, in case the Wii news channel forgot to mention this. We have just picked up word that Futronics – a Panasonic division responsible for the distribution of Nintendo products in South Africa – has decided not to to renew its dealership in the said area. Futronics further stated that local consumers will have to make future Nintendo-related purchases through other retail outlets in their vicinity.

While there is no word on who is planned to take their place, there is an ongoing discussion on two possibilities. One, that Nintendo Europe will directly take control and distribute its products in South Africa. Two, that another local retailer – rumored to be Mustek – will take over the dealership.

It will be remembered that the PlayStation 3 will be making it debut in the region on March 23 (the same launch date as Europe), meaning whoever does take the helm may face an uphill battle come launch.
