With the GDC shaping up with appearances from key industry bigwigs like Phil Harrison and Shigeru Miyamoto, this report will be focusing on the event’s more charitable side. Interactive Studio Management (ISM) and the CMP game groups have just announced that this year’s GDC will be hosting a charity poker tournament – an official first for the conference.

The tournament will be inviting 120 players within the gaming industry via invitations and silent bids, with a suggested US$ 100.00 donation being requested from competing players. Competition prices will include offerings from industry sponsors, with proceedings from the tourney going to the Starlight Starbright Children’s Foundation.

“We have found that having fun, and interactive gaming in particular, is an effective way to help children cope with a serious illness. We are honored to have been selected to benefit from this fundraiser,” said Paula Van Ness, the Starlight Starbright Children’s Foundation CEO. The poker competition is scheduled for March 6 at 9:30 p.m. at the Marriott Hotel, Golden Gate rooms C2-C3.
