Gearbox Software to work on Alien FPS

FacehuggerOkay, so we’ve reported that Sega is making an Alien RPG with the guys of Obsidian Entertainment. Well, just in case you don’t agree with the concept of an Alien RPG, here’s some good news for you. Apparently Sega is going to work with the guys from Gearbox Software, to create an FPS Alien title for next-generation systems.

So what previous titles have Gearbox been involved with? Well, Halo and Half Life is at the top of the list, so rest assured that the franchise is in good hands.

Of course we’re really hoping that the new Alien FPS captures the fear that was imposed on you by the gameplay of that old Aliens vs. Predator FPS. Why are we referencing an old game? Well, that old title was just one of the scariest games of all time. Its bad graphics, and iffy gameplay has, in a sort of lucky-accident-twist-of-fate-way, spawned one of the most gut-wrenching, oh-my-god-I’m-about-to-die-go-away-crazy-facehugger gameplay experiences. If this new Aliens FPS somehow captures that, then we’ve got a winner.

What’s next? An Alien RTS? That would be nice right? Honestly though, we’re thinking they should stop at platformer.
