1For those of you in the market for a spiffy all-in-one theatre experience, I suggest you start giving the Mondo system a good look. I had the chance at E3 to come in and view the system at work and I walked away quite impressed with what I saw. Though, in truth, IÂ’m not a huge technical buff, but the Mondo was impressive on both the technical and the visceral level. In the end, the system presented me with an easy to use interface, great looking HDTV video quality, and sound that blew me away.

Basically, the Mondo is comprised of 7.1 channel speakers, Hi-fi stereo and multi-channel amplifier, a 120Â’ 16:9 wide screen, front HDTV2 Ready DLP projector, and the system brain. WhatÂ’s interesting about this setup is that the system brain is basically a computer/tivo hybrid, where it can surf the web, record TV, and access a wide array of features while controlling all the separate components from one box.

Furthermore, the brain is actively involved in the video display. In a short demo, the Mondo system was made to play the movie Â’50 First DatesÂ’ from DVD, but the picture was duplicated twice on the same screen. Using the system brain, the picture on the left was smoother, crisp and the colors were perfect while the right picture was straight from the DVD. Meanwhile, the speakers immersed me in its surround sound, and even drew in onlookers from the surrounding area. In the next demo, an HDTV sports channel was displayed in crystal clear quality, and what was great about the demo was how seamlessly the system switched between movie and TV.

3Lastly, the people at Mondo Systems are partnering up with content distributors to allow their customers to download and play popular PC games straight to their Mondo without heading to the store or worrying about installation. While the last part may sound a lot like Infinium LabÂ’s embattled Phantom game system, the Mondo seems to be on the right track as it is offering the service as a side feature as opposed to the systemÂ’s main draw.

To be honest, I wasn’t sure what I thought about the ‘all-in-one’ approach when I first stepped into their booth, but considering that the unit has been built from the ground up that way, it definitely increased the performance and usability of the system. How much will this system cost the average person? Well, final numbers have not been crunched yet, but I was told upwards of $10,000. While this may be a little bit out of the casual gamer’s range, I’m sure that tech/audiophiles will just eat the Mondo up. If you’re interested in the system, I’d suggest heading over to Mondo System’s website here.
