Heavenly Sword running without firmware updates (Redux)
Yesterday Ben02 tipped us off to a video his team’s posted showing Heavenly Sword running on a PS3 without having to update its system firmware. Throwing caution into the wind – and with a grain of salt, if we might add – some of the commenters have been discussing the reliability of the video, saying that the skipping and jumps between clips in the video posed doubt over it being real.
To clear things up, Ben02 once again tipped us off to an updated video of the hack. This time, there aren’t any cuts, and the two strips of tape tacked on the monitor to hide his system info are kept there all throughout. In this video, there’s not much, as Quixand put it, “abrakadabra action!!!” that we could see. Check it out for yourself and you be the judge now:
While it’s been previously reported that PS3 TIFF exploits have been found in the past, this video proves that the hacking community is still very much alive and just won’t stand fazed by the mean black machine that is the PS3. Props for the effort, and once again, thanks to Ben02 for his kind tip off in our inbox!
