InuKami barks its way to the DS

This is an article about InuKami coming to the DS as an electronic novel. Honestly, I wish I knew where to start “InuKami”, but just thinking about it is already making my head hurt from laughing so hard.

So what is “InuKami”? Perhaps I could begin with my experience. A friend of mine gave me a list of things I should catch for the spring anime season in Japan. Some were popular manga titles such as “xxxHolic”, “Ouran Kokou Host Club”, and then there was “InuKami”. The name was quite interesting. It was written in hiragana and it could mean as profound as Dog God, or it could also mean Dog Hair. As I have trusted my friend’s suggestion, I gave it a shot. And my brain just turned to goo.

“InuKami” is what you may call as a parody anime, an anime that just cracks up every issue in Japan. For “InuKami”, the big issue is Japan’s ever growing fascination with perversion. And oh boy, have I never seen an anime as funny as Inukami!

“Inukami” is the story of Keita and his Inukami, Youko. Youko intends to have a closer relationship with Keita, but Keita is much too busy running after girls. In truth, Keita is actually from a line of exorcist who uses an Inukami to exorcise evil ghosts that lurk around the city, and in the case of the anime, ghosts who have very perverted intentions. One of which was a ghost who likes to expose himself in order to break couples apart. The anime is sooo hilarious that it gives you headaches from laughing. Will the DS hold this comedy for “Inukami”? Well, for fans of the anime, it could be just as fun.

The “Inukami” Electronic Novel for the DS features the story of how Keita and Youko met for the first time. This explains how Keita chose Youko to become his Inukami as well as some of their adventures together. As this is an electronic novel, you’ll have nothing but the story and some pictures. In fact, it’s a full voice edition and will include some scenes from the anime. But like other digital novels, you too can change particular scenarios with the hidden cards in the game. There is a hidden card in the game that allows you access to another minigame, one that shows a ‘naked’ Keita running through some obstacles with Youko.

This is definitely a game for the fans of the anime, but for the curious, the story can just crack you up. Just make sure that you have some of your sanity left under lock and key. For sure, you’re going to need it back after this game. The game also comes with a limited edition release that has a drama CD of “Inukami”! Expect it in stores sometime December.
