Japan Monthly Sales (July 2006)

DS JapanJuly’s hardware sales weren’t very interesting for the top few consoles, but the bottom few had some cool things happening. The Xbox reached an all time low of zero consoles sold in one week! Absolutely nobody in Japan bought an Xbox that week. However, it returned the next week with 11 consoles sold to beat out the original GBA‘s 9. Also, in the middle of July, Nintendo announced that it had sold a total of 10 million units of the DS in Japan (plus 11 million more overseas).

In related news, Nintendo also announced that production of the original DS unit had ceased. Seeing as it has been about five months since the DS Lite launched in Japan, something like this wasn’t at all surprising.

Here are the figures of consoles sold in Japan for July:

DS Lite: 729,618
PSP: 145,784
PS2: 95,998
NDS: 13,311
GBASP: 10,619
X360: 6,433
GBM: 6,136
GCN: 3,977
GBA: 77
XBX: 34

On the software side, we saw a few interesting titles that broke the top ten for a week, but went down under soon after. Those included Rockman ZX, Loco Roco, Battle Stadium D.O.N, and Project Hacker. Two titles, New Super Mario Bros. and Brain Training broke the 2.5 million mark last month! The numbers cover July 3rd – July 30th which makes for a regular four week month.
