More adults own gaming consoles

Dads are now weaning their kids on video games - Image 1We told you in a recent article that one third of TV homes have consoles. That in itself is already big news, considering that console ownership increased 35 percent since 2004 even, when the gaming industry is being blamed for all sorts of evils in the world. Yet we’re telling you another surprise now: the majority of these console owners, actually 71 percent, are married, and 66 percent have at least one child in the household.

No wonder why the consoles are getting more and more sophisticated each day. Daddy’s the one who’s buying and playing them. Everyday, more families are incorporating gaming consoles into their households in centralized home media centers.

Gone are the days when Father does not want to see strange machines on his children’s hands. We’re thinking the dads of today are those Nintendo-kids who grew up in the eighties and early nineties. They in turn do not want their kids to be deprived of gaming rights, thus weaning the kids of today on video games.

Gaming consoles today are not only being used for gaming, but also for other media applications like movies, digital recording, and digital music playing. Microsoft and Sony have been positioning their consoles, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 to perform the said functions, with Sony banking on a huge bet by putting a Blu-ray high definition DVD player in each of its new PS3 consoles.

Worth mentioning is Nintendo Wii, the hit console with motion sensors, also the top selling console in the United Sales as of January this year.
