Neverwinter Nights 2: quasi-homebrew MMO maker?

Whenever new MMORPGs are released, somewhere in the back of the minds of some gamers, they’re thinking that it’s gonna be just another Dungeons and Dragons derivative. If it isn’t the similar gameplay and concept, it’s the same RPG system. Which is why we gotta admit it’s getting harder and harder to come out with RPG titles that devs can claim as highly original and innovative.

Then in comes Bioware and Obsidian with Neverwinter Nights. With the introduction of Toolsets, where users can write and create their own content, the RPG realm is suddenly transformed into some sort of a hardcore gamer’s nirvana for creativity. With this much freedom right in their hands, variety is heightened as gameplay possibilities become endless — all depending on how the user will let his creativity flow.

So in the recent interview that MMORPG scored with the devs of NWN 2, they talk about how the sequel to the acclaimed RPG will make use of the Toolset feature, how it sort of redefines and molds the current concept of MMORPGs, and how far they’ll go with regard to customization and user-defined game elements. Tony Evans, one of the guys from the dev team even says that even though NWN 2 was released just recently, they’re already seeing some very “promising” modules and plug-ins made by the users themselves.

And with developments like this, the dev team, and the NWN community itself, can only look forward to even more amazing stuff being brewed by the users. Annie Carlson, Tony Evans, Ben Ma, Eric Fenstermaker, Anthony Davis, and Ryan Rucinski answers MMORPG’s questions as they talk about all these and more in the interview.
