New SNK Arcade Classics collection spotted on ESRB
Remember SNK Arcade Classics Vol. 1 (PS2, PSP, Wii)? A year on and it looks like SNK is finally ready to release the next volume in the compilation. Thing is, it seems they’re going backwards instead of forward.
Remember SNK Arcade Classics Vol. 1 (PS2, PSP, Wii)? A year on and it looks like SNK is finally ready to release the next volume in the compilation. Thing is, it seems they’re going backwards instead of forward.
A listing for a PS2 and PSP collection called SNK Arcade Classics 0 recently popped up on the ESRB database, and that “0” in the title suggests that SNK will be reaching even further back for this one compared to the 90s-centric Vol. 1.
Another clue is present in the ESRB’s description which mentions that the 1989 game SAR: Search and Rescue is included in the collection. It actually got mentioned since it seems to be the only reason this game got an “M” rating:
The game receives a Mature rating for one game’s depiction of blood and gore: In SAR (Search and Rescue), blood covers the entire floor of some rooms. Although the perspective is top-down and the graphics are somewhat minimal (2D), there are frequent depictions of mangled human corpses strewn—or lying face-down—in pools of blood.
The description doesn’t mention any other games, but it does say that there will be 20 in all comprising several genres: action, fighting, sports (baseball, football, Olympics), shooting, and platforming. Ikari Warriors and Psycho Soldier (or maybe Athena) are probably in there somewhere. The curious can find a list of SNK’s old 80s games here.
