3dsNintendo has finally revealed the new hardware they’ve been working on — a 3D-capable Nintendo DS called, appropriately enough, the 3DS.

The company won’t be doing the official unveiling until E3, so details on how the handheld’s 3D support will work are still scarce, although it has been confirmed that 3D glasses won’t be required. Nintendo also revealed that the 3DS will be backwards compatible with older DS and DSi software.

The 3DS will reportedly be out in Japan before March 2011. It will presumably be playable — or at the least, demoed — at E3 this year.

Thanks to MartinStatic and GUNBEHINDTHESUN for the tips!
