On Blu-ray this week - Image 1Bong, girls, demonic creatures, seductive man-eaters, fighter jets…what else do you want from your weekly dose of entertainment? Last week’s batch of Blu-ray releases is indeed quite a lot, but it’s got nothing on this week’s chunky list of upcoming flicks that includes the oldies, the goodies, and even the munchies in the form of Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle: Extreme Unrated Edition. Of course, as the name implies viewers can expect all-out unbridled mayhem filled with bong and the opposite sex.

Those who’ve previously watched Harold (John Cho) and Kumar’s (Kal Penn) antics in the search of the Holy Grail, also known as the White Castle, will already know what is the driving force that propels them to go into a convoluted adventure: a bad case of the munchies.

After Kumar suffers a humiliating slip of the tongue during his med school interview – on which is future depends on – he manages to cajole a work-oppressed Harold into a bong party, which results in a strong craving for food…White Castle food. After getting mistaken for being infected with rabies, experiencing romance outtakes, and other outlandish situations…will Harold and Kumar ever find White Castle?

If you’re in a mood for more somber flicks, then you may want to check out the classic The Hunt for Red October. Sean Connery‘s character, Marko Ramius, is the captain of the cutting-edge Typhoon-class nuclear missile submarine named Red October.

Both captain and vessel are on the run from both sides: the entire Soviet fleet and NATO forces who believe that the Red October will nuke the United States. Ramius’ lone hope is CIA analyst Jack Ryan (Alec Baldwin), who believes that Ramius wants to defect to the West.

Like movies on a (literally) epic scale? Beowulf: Director’s Cut will certainly serve to sate any cinemaphile’s epic bloodlust. Follow Beowulf’s (Ray Winstone) ancient tale once again retold, about his quest to save his nation from a monster, Grendel, and overcoming the wiles of the demon’s mother (Angelina Jolie). If you’re not satisfied with merely reading about the legend, Beowulf the movie will certainly prove to be a good alternative.

Ever had dreams of flying high up in the sky? Relish the feel of the wind underneath your wings (with bogeys on your tail) in one of Tom Cruise‘s most defining roles in Top Gun. As Maverick, Cruise treats viewers to a glimpse into the life of flight school students, who learn a thing or two about flying…and yes, some things about life that aren’t taught in schools.

If you like more of Harold and Kumar’s antics, suspense flicks, or just plain HD eye-candy, this week’s bevy of Blu-ray releases will prove to give you more than enough entertainment choices in case you’re not up to picking up that game console controller yet.
