Poteyto-Potahto: PSP games – DL or retail – will get same price
It boggles the mind to find out a game made downloadable – and having no physical packaging and sheets of paper bound together, labeled as “MANUAL” – be given the same tag price as that of one who actually carries a physical disc and a box. Basic economics would tell you that lower production costs should result to lower shelf prices. Unfortunately, even the law of economics is breakable, and Sony just does it really well every time. That scenario painted above, that’s exactly what’s gonna happen: same pricing for UMD and downloadable games.

Exhibit A: Gran Turismo PSP. The physical game will cost US$ 39.99. The digital copy: US$ 39.99. Exhibit B: Persona. Physical game: US$ 39.99, digital copy: US$ 39.99. Are you seeing and following the pattern thus far?
Even more appalling is how the physical copies seem to be getting the better bargain as, for example, Persona will be getting not only a prettified box for packaging, but also a two-disc soundtrack. Digital copy will not have this.
UMD = 1, DLC = 0.
So, in the end, not only does the PSP Go stab you in the back with the unremovable battery, it also laughs at your face by putting a price tag to a DL game the same price as a physical one. So, it’s not the production costs that’s really dictating the price, is it now, Sony?
I’d love to hear their explanation on this one.
